Unique environments created from natural wood and artistic design.

Form & Function

Grant Chai Architectural Inlay provides grand-scale, artistically-designed inlaid wood for interior applications—cabinets, wall paneling, doors, stairs, flooring, ceilings, countertops, signage and furniture.

The creations feature an exceptionally high level of craftsmanship, some consisting of thousands of pieces of natural wood to shape exquisite, intricate designs.

The signature blend of coloration and depth is created solely through the selection of wood, without dyes, stains or paint.

As unique as Grant’s creations are, the process required to complete them is just as distinctive.

His technique combines old-world craftsmanship with modern technology, entailing countless hours of precision cutting and assembling with renewable materials and eco-friendly finishes.

Each original work begins as a vision of the mind's eye. Next, a hand-drawn sketch reveals the image that is then refined, and digitially rendered. Colors are simulated on a computer, and then the artist selects the wood from nature's palette. Using a scalpel, knife, saw or laser, each piece is skillfully cut and then carefully placed into the final composition.

I specialize in creating wood inlay of organic designs, bringing nature and its allure indoors. The designs come alive through a high level of craftsmanship—showcasing imagination and unsurpassed definition. Each work may consist of thousands of precisely-cut pieces. My signature blend of coloration and depth is created solely through the selection of wood—without dyes, stains or paint. The pieces are assembled with renewable materials and eco-friendly finishes.

I work with high-end interior designers and architects for commercial and residential applications, as well as directly with homeowners. My creations can transform any interior surface—cabinets, wall paneling, doors, stairs, flooring, ceilings, countertops, signage and furniture. Expressing nature indoors enables my clients to determine whether they want my work to complement the surroundings or highlight a room.
